Andalucia Diary – Seasonal Travel Notes

4×4 and hiking trail from La Mairena to Entrerios and Mijas

This is our first weekend at home just relaxing for a while; and I’ve been wanting for some time to take the 4×4 trail from our La Mairena neighbourhood, through the mountains to Entrerios and Mijas.

The track from the house has been recently cleared and is in great shape; the views down to the coast, and across to Gib were beautiful. Later the trail deteriorated considerably and was only passable in a 4×4; we passed a few hikers and lads on mountain bikes.

The trail is signed and takes you behind the mountain where we had the La Mairena fire last year and right over to Entrerios where the fire started.  Most is green now, but the whole area is extremely dry and there’s barely any water in the river.

I find it fascinating that in such a small area there is such a diversity of flora, based on different altitudes and orientation.

The trail ends at the small lane at the top of Entrerios, and then you can follow this narrow road down, through the houses to the main road that can take you back up through La Cala Resort to la Mairena
