Andalucia Diary – Seasonal Travel Notes

UPDATE 2016:

This beach now looks very different to how it’s described here – I imagine it’s changed hands

As is so often the case here in Andalucia – new places are lovely for their first season and then people either close, or get greedy or just lose the plot

Visit 2014:

Bolonia beach is very much part of our lives – we make our regular pilgrimage there throughout the year, often weekly in the summer.  At the end of the road that runs along the shore was a bar called ‘Caracoles’ – a place we held with great fondness.

Yet over the years it went downhill, food and service deteriorated and in the end we used to just pack a picnic and some cold beers and forget going to a beach bar. Then arrived Sirocco!

Yet this year, the bar has been taken over by three young entrepreneurs from Seville and re-christened Sirocco.

The style is still pared back, and simple, yet it has a brightness and vibrancy that perfectly suits its seaside location. Rustic modern tables and chairs made from recycled wooden pallets are painted aquamarine, their clear lines echoing the water and horizon. Bean bags are scattered on the grass, and colourful woven hammocks hand from the beams. There’s an indoor and outdoor bar too.

It’s a relaxed vibe.

Food is simple too, but freshly made: salads, pizzas and such like. It’s exactly what we always wanted here. Uncomplicated food that uses fresh ingredients and is priced fairly – oh, and they do Nespresso coffee too 🙂

They maintain a surf rental business too.

I really wish them well!
